The Mother
with Dwayne Jackson
Course information
Mothers are the natural scapegoats for all our failings. This workshop will consider the role of the mother, using theory and clinical experience to examine the ambivalent, the destroying and the nurturing mother.
Rarely does a client’s mother not appear in the therapy room, one way or another. Many clients carry her with them, having internalised her best or worst parts. And is the therapist’s mother there, too, sitting opposite the client?
This course will think about the mother from a number of angles. We will explore early theories about the mother and see how these might be relevant to our work with clients. Later in the day we will use examples from clinical experience and from the personal experiences of course participants to consider the role of the mother in psychological and emotional development.
